How to use Secondbrain

Secondbrain is your personal content library. We make it really easy to keep track of all the content that you have online. Bookmark web-pages and import content from your favorite internet-services. Organize everything in collections and share your lifestream on your public page. Find a home for all your content in Secondbrain.

Start using Secondbrain in five easy steps

1. Create a Secondbrain account

Enter your desired user name in the form on the front page. If it is available you will be asked to enter your email address and confirm it via a link in an email that we send you. When your account is created you're taken to your Secondbrain page with your personal URL (username.secondbrain.com). Check out lars.secondbrain.com to get an idea on how this will look.

2. Import content from your favorite services

Now that you've set up your Secondbrain account you can start importing content. Click the big "+ Add content" button on the top right of the page to expand the dashboard. Select the import content option and the service you'd like to import content from. If you choose flickr for example, you will be asked to authenticate yourself on flickr to allow Secondbrain to access your flickr images. For other services, like YouTube, we only need your username. As soon as you have authenticated the service, you can choose which content from the service you'd like to import. Click import content and wait for Secondbrain to get your content. Your library will be automatically updated after several seconds. We only import your meta-data, like title, description and tags of your content, along with a small preview.

3. Browse and search all your content

It's easy to browse and search the library in Secondbrain. Your content tags are mixed into a Secondbrain tag cloud from which you can browse all your content. You can also do a free-text search on your content, other people's collections or even search for other Secondbrain users.

4. Remix content into collections

Any type of content from any connected service can be mixed into collections. A collection is like a virtual folder. Select content from Your Content and add it into one of your collections. Secondbrain collections may be shared with other people, both inside and outside the community. All public collections are indexed and searchable in any decent search engine.

5. Share your lifestream

Secondbrain has several social features. You can add other Secondbrain users as contacts and automatically follow their updates in the recent updates feed on your Secondbrain page. You can also comment and rate collections. Secondbrain is an open network where anyone can access public content and visit public user profiles.
